Interest in Citizens on Patrol Continues to Grow

Crime preys on apathy. As there cannot be a Police Officer on every corner, it is up to every member of the community to assume responsibility for its protection. Citizens on Patrol (C.O.P.) is a group of citizens who participate in a community based crime prevention, observation and reporting suspicious activities while on patrol.  Volunteers work closely with the local detachment and complete mandatory training in surveillance and observation techniques, note taking, as well as safe patrolling practices.

The Olds group currently has 55 members but are still looking for more community participation. Applicants must have a clear record, be able to pass a comprehensive security screening conducted by the R.C.M.P. Members are expected to dedicate one shift a month which can range in duration between 2-4 hours and participate in COP meetings and training activities. Applications are available at the Town of Olds Administration Office or the Olds RCMP Detachment. For more information contact Jennifer at 403-556-6891.
